ERP Success Is an Ownership Problem, Not a Technology Problem

Everyone says they want ERP accountability, until it’s time to name who owns the outcome. The pattern repeats: leadership funds it, IT configures it, consultants implement it, and operations lives with it. But no one owns whether it actually works. So when things break, it’s ‘the system,’ it’s ‘the users,’ it’s ‘training.’ It’s never ownership.

ERP success isn’t a technology problem. It’s an ownership problem. If one person isn’t clearly responsible for data integrity, process adherence, and system outcomes, a company doesn’t have a system — it has shared liability. Most ERP failures don’t come from picking the wrong system. They come from never assigning ownership in the first place.
